This video course demonstrates every aspect of Carlos Salzedo's virtuosic and powerful pedal solo harp piece Ballade.

Explore this extraordinary work through an understanding of Salzedo's musical language. Alice demonstrates and describes the tradition of playing carried through from his legacy of performance and teaching. She studied Ballade under Alice Chalifoux, who carried on Salzedo's teaching legacy in the Salzedo Summer Harp Colony in Camden and was one of his main students,.

This course is ideal for students just starting their journey with the Ballade, or for teachers who have not performed it but have students preparing it for competitions and recitals. There are tips and tricks for the different technical challenges, as well as insight into interpretation.

Use the advantages of the video lesson format to watch an expert demonstrate, re-visiting the videos as often as you wish as the course never expires, moving at your own pace. The course includes over an hour of and a half of video material. This is arranged in a series of short videos, working in order through the entire piece, enabling easy searching and focused attention.

You will need to purchase the sheet music separately. It is available from most harp music suppliers, including Vanderbilt in the US.

Alice Giles AM is one of the world’s leading harpists, and also a dedicated and inspiring teacher. Winner of the prestigious 8th Israel International Harp Contest, she performs extensively as soloist and gives master-classes word-wide. Australian born, she studied in the US and spent many years living in Germany before returning to her roots, where she lives in rural New South Wales. Always ready for an adventure she has even performed on Mawson Station in Antarctica. She is a Board member of the World Harp Congress, and was Artistic Director of the WHC Sydney 2014.
